Emily & Ben {a 1920s Gatsby wedding}

Sarah Sadler

From the moment I met Emily & Ben...I knew {even if I had to sell my soul...} I simply HAD to photograph their wedding day! Emily is so petite and beautiful, Ben {I know I am not making you sound like a Rock God by saying this} but he is the biggest sweetheart, everybody's friend...their wedding was to be an Art Deco affair! New York Glamour, gold, decadence...I am sure I was drooling at one point....the glasses....the champagne glasses!!! {Yes Emily...just send 8 my way please}

We were driving around Chester city in an 1950's ford Anglia {with other car drivers waving frantically at me as I couldn't get the door to shut properly} Drinking Champagne on the way to a quite new and amazing hotel the Abode!

Emily & Ben....I love you

How did you meet and what is your engagement story?

We actually went to school together, but became friends in college. But Ben went travelling the world and I went off to uni. We remained friends and after moving back to the same area, it just developed into more. Ben proposed on a cliff top over a fish and chip picnic at sunset, overlooking Woolacombe beach in Devon. He gave me a kinder egg (my favourite) as I opened the toy part, out popped a ring!! It was perfect and he put so much thought into the whole thing.

How did you know your wedding dress was the “one”?

I was absolutely convinced I knew exactly what I wanted when it came to dresses. But as a lot of brides say, be prepared to try something you wouldn’t have initially thought you’d try. I was very close to buying a very simple figure hugging satin fishtail, but then I saw my dress in the window. I wanted to try it as it was simply beautiful. I never actually thought I’d go for it, as it wasn’t something I’d ever thought to try. When I put it on, I felt like a princess (sorry a little cheesey I know).

What was you theme?

Our theme was always going to be a little bit of vintage and the colour scheme had to have a lot of gold, as I simply love this colour. I’ve grown up with an antiques dealer as a father, and I love the 1920’s gatsby era. With being such a modern venue it was important for us not go overboard with the theme. We also spent christmas in New York for our honeymoon, so we also wanted to incorporate this in the day. So I would say it was a very gold sparkly wedding with a hint of 1920’s New York glamour.

Please let other brides know why you chose little ol’ me as your photographer and your experience?

We went to meet Sarah at her studio after viewing her portfolio online. From the moment we sat down you could just see her passion and excitement she had for her job. It was probably the most simple decision with the wedding planning process. We didn’t even meet another photographer as it was decision made.

Anything you would like to tell us about the supplies you choose/the venue etc?

We really did have some incredible suppliers and the most amazing wedding venue. We really couldn’t praise the Abode hotel enough for the whole day. Their service and attention to detail throughout the whole planning process through to the day was second to none. We have some incredibly talented friends who we called on for our stunning flowers and wedding stationary and Joe Wilkinson from ‘Perfect Day Productions’ for our wedding video. Our amazing wedding car (1950’s ford anglia is a family members). Our entertainment was the talented Kyle Harris who sang a number of Nat King Cole and Sinatra classics amongst many others. Check him out he’s fab! And finally our stunning wedding cake was provided by ‘Cakes by Andrea Lee’. I was pretty adamant I wanted a tier of gold leaf and it was pretty tricky finding a cake supplier who was happy to do this, and the cake was just perfect, it also tasted incredible!

Is there anything you would do differently or any words of advice.....?

We would say that it goes so fast, so just enjoy every moment of it. Also try not to get stressed over all the details in the run up to the wedding. On the day it will be perfect whatever happens.

Anything else you would like to add...this is your wedding day story

Thank you Sarah for the most beautiful wedding photos xxx
