I adore this couple!! Helen & Jeff married on very hot and sunny day on the 17th May at S
t Laurences Church, Frodsham , where Helen grow up, and held their reception Hilton Double Tree Chester (one of the few places with a room big enough!)
We have known each other since we were 17/18 so have been friends for a long time. Got engaged last year whilst on holiday in Germany – very romantic location at the castle where they filmed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Actual proposal was on a very narrow, very wobbly bridge over a ravine!! Only actually engaged for 10 months as we didn’t want to wait and really wanted an early summer wedding so it’s been a busy year.
“Union” by Robert Fulghum
You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks — all those sentences that began with “When we’re married” and continued with “I will” and “you will” and “we will” — those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” — and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding.
The symbolic vows that you have just made are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed — well, I meant it all, every word.”
Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another — acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you have said a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this is my husband, this is my wife
The wedding dress was from the fantastic Bethany Hannah bridal store in Stockton Heath (they have the nicest staff). It was an Australian designer ‘Essense of Australia’,
I wanted something with a bit of lace but that wasn’t too ‘big’ – it was one of only 2 that I actually liked and felt comfortable in.
My favourite thing was the apple tree that we used for our table plan and decorated with little felt birds that I made. The tree is now planted in our garden :) Jeff was responsible for making the table plan, table names and all of the wooden bases for the table decorations – he did an excellent job :)
Just wanted things that reflected out interest in nature and weren’t all matching – we wanted to take a more chilled approach!!
Cake (– My fabulous Uncle made the cake for me, which made it extra special
You were fabulous to work with Sarah. So many guests have commented on how unobtrusive you were and it really was like having another friend around
Our 1st song was Elbow, “One Day Like This” – because it was the only we both liked! (I wasn’t allowed ‘At Last’ by Etta James!!)
